Midwest Bioethics Center - Announcement of Positions

Midwest Bioethics Center is a freestanding practical bioethics center dedicated to addressing ethical issues in health and healthcare based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Center provides critical information, training, tools and guidance to community leaders, policymakers, researchers and health organizations throughout the country to help them find real-world solutions to complex ethical issues in health and healthcare.

The Center is seeking candidates for Program Associates with expertise in the following domains:

    Research Ethics: to advance the protection of human subjects and the responsible conduct of biomedical research.
    End-of-Life Care: to improve care of seriously ill and dying people and their family caregivers.
    Vulnerable Populations: to raise awareness among health policy leaders, healthcare professionals and the public about health and healthcare disparities related to class, race and ethnicity.

Qualifications for Program Associate
PhD in ethics or a social science discipline (medical sociology, health policy, etc.) preferred, MD, JD, or master's degree in related field with experience considered. Must have significant content knowledge one of the above domains; strong written and oral communication skills (in English); strong planning and project management skills; and ability to administer grants according to parameters/criteria of awarding foundations or funding sources. Experience in policy research is important. Preparing and presenting information on research ethics issues to diverse audiences is a critical skill.

Responsibilities:
These roles will serve as key resources on behalf of the Center and its constituencies. They will develop programs and communiques in alignment with their assigned domain. These program associates will work with interested parties to analyze needs; evaluate educational, research and information needs; arrange education and consultation based on needs, and guide development of standards and policies around bioethics. Program Associates will prepare articles for publication in industry journals and coordinate research and writing from outside contributors. They will also present topics of interest to a wide variety of audiences throughout the country. Our Program Associates will have responsibility for securing new grants, along with administration of grants and other funding sources. Interpersonal traits desired include strong ability to build effective relationships with staff and constituents of the Center, along with effectiveness in planning and implementing work according to deadlines. Compensation will be based on experience and education.
